Meadowbrook was originally established as Burgin Chapel in 1944. The building on Old Toll Road was given to the community for a church by Gorman Burgin.
A new church building was built and completed in 1961.
As time passed and the congregation grew, the members decided to purchase land for a new church. Howard Messer was pastor at this time. On March 19th 1975, the church voted to purchase 5 acres of land on Blue Ridge Rd. They received most of the funds through the sale of the Fellowship Trio's record album entitled "Jesus Opened Up The Way". The land was paid for in just 14 months!
The members voted to change the name from Burgin Chapel to Meadowbrook Free Will Baptist on July 23rd 1975 in keeping with the landscape of the new location. Almost two years later the church was free of all debts.
The groundbreaking of the new building was on April 23rd 1978 under the leadership of Rev. Wayne Smith. In July the beams were raised into place. Two months later on September 26th 1978 the cornerstone was laid. More milestones were met in February 1979; the pews and choir seats we put in and the steeple was raised. Charles Wise placed the cross on top of the steeple as snow was coming down.
